Scientific Highlights

Separate anterior paraventricular thalamus projections differentially regulate sensory and affective aspects of pain

Chen et al. — Cell Reports (2025)

By combining Doric’s LISER™ and rotary joints , Chen et al. optogenetically stimulated multiple opsins in freely moving mice. Distinct neuron populations in the anterior paraventricular thalamus were shown to regulate sensory versus affective components of pain.

Pain circuit optogenetics

Cortical representations of affective pain shape empathic fear in male mice

Choi et al. — Nature Communications (2025)

Using Doric’s Miniaturized Fluorescence Microscopy , researchers identified neural ensembles in the anterior cingulate cortex that encode observational fear. ACC projections to the periaqueductal gray selectively conveyed affective pain information and regulated empathic freezing behavior.
